Considering Heat Pumps, Gas Boilers, and the Importance of Insulation
We’re frequently asked: “Should I replace my gas boiler with a heat pump?”
Here’s our honest view:
👉 Heat pumps can work very well in modern, well-insulated homes – especially outside London, where there’s more space and fewer infrastructure challenges.
👉 In London homes, particularly older or less insulated ones, heat pumps often require significant upgrades to perform efficiently. These include improved insulation, larger radiators, and updated pipework.
👉 For smaller or mid-sized London properties, where every square metre counts, heat pumps are often not the most practical option due to the indoor and outdoor space they require.
👉 However, for homes currently using LPG or Oil Boilers, switching to a heat pump is often a more energy-efficient and cost-effective solution – especially when paired with proper insulation.
